Remember growing up, when your grandparents, aunts and uncles would always say "oh my, have you grown!" and you would think, "well duh, of course I have!" or something similar. Well, I kind of feel that way about my baby planners, particularly when they are "graduating". I first met Maci when she was just learning to sit up , she was still rather wobbly actually. I met her again when she was just learning to crawl. Hard to believe that in just over 11 months, she was tough to keep up with, full of personality and fearless. Here's Maci at 17 months old!

I absolutely love to watch a baby grow. Davis is one of my baby plan babies. You may remember his sweet face from last fall when DAVIS was just three months old. I am often a part of milestone celebrations for babies and young children, both professionally and personally. Seems though, as we get older, those milestones tend to be less celebrated and almost dreaded. I was fortunate enough to celebrate Mary and her big milestone birthday this year. Her one wish - a photo session celebrating some of her biggest gifts, her family. Her prized Yellow Submarine even made an appearance in some of the images. Exactly Six years ago, I was in labor, and little did I know how much my world would change. On April 1, 2005, I gained a new, glorious title, "Mama, Mommy, Mom." Madelyn Sophia was born on her due date - April 1, 2005. I can not imagine that six years, later, on the night before turning six, that my sweet girl would be reading me a 50 page 4-chapter book. Madelyn truly has a heart of gold, is smart, and funny, and caring. Her eyes sparkle like diamonds when she smiles and can truly light up a room. She loves to dance, and play teacher and absolutely adores being a big sister. She is a helper and a perfectionist and hates not being good at something (wonder where she got that from). I am so proud of the little girl that she is and while part of me wants to freeze her just as she is, perfect and innocent to protect her, I am so excited to see what her future holds. So, I publish this post a bit early as I hope to be relishing every minute with my amazing six year old tomorrow, on her birthday. Here's a quick snap-shot over the past birthdays.

I had the pleasure of photographing Shepherd and his family last week. This little guy was actually not so little weighing in at just under 10 lbs. He was pretty much wide awake for nearly three hours. Surprisingly, he was calm and happy the entire time. He didn't want to miss a thing and was lifting his head, turning his neck and truly watching everything around him. Big brother Finn was my helper and seemed to be taking on his new role as big brother quite well. I say it all the time, but I genuinely feel blessed to be invited into your home and to be able to provide memories that will last lifetimes. Congratulations Kim and Stephen on your newest edition.

Four years ago today we welcomed my sweet, sensitive little boy into this world. I wanted to share a quick peak into the years on his birthday. His first year was full of so much spitting up, but it didn't stop the smiles and big belly laughs. The next year was full of lots and lots of talking and a big interest in books, music, cars and sports and those passions have pretty much continued. It amazes me how one young child can retain so many sports facts, words to songs, and yet be such a natural budding athlete. I am constantly amazed by things he says and his ability to learn and do anything he sets his mind to. This little guy is so tough on the surface at times but really just wants and needs lots of love and attention. He is shy at first, but once he warms up, he can't be stopped. His big brown eyes and long, long lashes together with his dimples are certainly the path to my heart and many others. Happy Birthday to my little man.

Big Time! - Sarasota Family Photographer

I love this time of year. I have a constant flow of deliveries and for me, it's like Christmas morning unwrapping client orders nearly every day of November and December. This week, I had two big canvas deliveries, one 16x20 and one 24x30. My husband, who usually just acts interested because he knows I get excited, actually really was. His comment for the first one (the 16x20) was, "it's great, but...", and my heart sank. He finished with - "it's too small, it needs to be bigger, a lot bigger." I totally agreed. I didn't get any pictures of that one, but did today when I got an unexpected delivery of the 24x30 canvas that was supposed to be delivered to Virginia (it will be making it's way to you Kristen, I promise). I have to admit, I was really kind of excited about the lab's error. Just meant I got to see the canvas, in all it's big, beautiful glory. And, being the person of opportunity, I decided to hang it on my wall.

I have wanted to do a post on this for quite some time. I can't tell you how many times I have clients order 5x7 prints and "Big" 8x10 prints for their walls. Here's the thing, unless you are literally a foot or two away from it, you will not see your image. My clients pay for a custom photography experience. They love their images and want to show them off but are often afraid of ordering big. Instead, they end up with lots of 5x7 that don't do the image justice in most cases. I have the most beautiful clients and, if I don't say so myself, we create some amazing images together of your families. SHOW THEM OFF!

I want to share an image in my own home. This is not how my wall typically looks, I love my work but don't typically display clients on the walls of my home. For reference, this sofa is actually a small, compact one (a little larger than a love seat, but not standard sofa length). If you ever make your way to my home, I suggest you don't ever sit on in. Molly, our 11 year old beagle has made this her personal perch. It is full of dog hair and horribly uncomfortable because she has squashed the stuffing out of the cushions. But, it will serve the purpose for today.

I have listed the print sizes for reference. As a general rule, desk prints (to be displayed on a table top in a frame) are 8x10 and small. That is because it's likely that you will be in close proximity to it. Prints this size can be picked up for closer looks without risking ruining a wall display. Wall prints are prints that are 11x14 or larger. You do not need to be right upon them in order to appreciate the subject matter.

So, next time you question what size print you will need, GO BIG! You won't regret it.

I had the pleasure of finally meeting sweet Baby Davis and his parents last week. We tried to coordinate newborn pictures for him back in the summer, but our schedules didn't mesh. So we signed him up for a Baby plan package and I will have the honor of watching this little guy grow over the next year.

At 3-4 months, I like to show off the baby's new skills of holding their heads up and flashing their big, toothless smiles. Davis was a star and made my job easy. We even got a couple sleepy "newborn" poses at the end. This little guy aparently can sleep anywhere, including the middle of a cart path! It was a pleasure meeting you Jamie and Spenser, I look forward to documenting Davis's milestones!

We celebrated the end of a VERY busy week full of Tee-Ball, Student of the Month breakfast, Fall Celebrations, Storybook Parades and several dance performances with Trick-or-Treating on Friday night. Our neighborhood is a five mile circle, with many undeveloped lots. So, in order to get to the most houses efficiently, the neighborhood puts on a hayride for the kids. The parents follow in a large golf cart brigade. I LOVE this tradition. We can go out with the kids and, if we didn't have the support of our parents, we could still also give out candy, since the kids all come in mass. Madelyn decided to dress as PINK Minnie Mouse (again, she was also Pink Minnie two years ago). Thomas was a Rays baseball player (what a shocker!) and Caroline was a lady bug. I decided to go as a Pink baseball player in an attempt to please both big kids. Bjorn was a traditional Scottish golfer. We had a blast.

The weather started off rather warm, but ended with a nice cool breeze and an AMAZING sunset! I attempted to process this picture using my usual steps; however, it was too good SOOC (Straight out of the camera)!

We attempted to lay fairly low the rest of the week-end. I did manage to get a few pictures of my little pumpkin on Sunday. I can't it's already November and she's 14 months old!

While the rest of the country is well into fall, bundling up in layers, we continue to enjoy the sunny, warm temperatures in Sarasota. While I am looking forward to the cooler weather, I was happy to embrace the last days of summer for this session. You might remember Maci from her "sitting" session back in June. Well, Maci has done a lot of growing and is now on the move.

She is completely smitten with her mom and dad.

Thomas started playing T-ball this month on a team with 8 other three and four-year olds. They are playing in a league through the YMCA, their team is called the Little Sluggers. He eats, drink, sleeps and plays baseball, so this is huge for him. Here is a slideshow with some images from his first game. He had some great hits, ran the bases, got a couple balls (and got tackled in doing so).

Found! I thought I had gotten rid of all of Madelyn's baby clothes after the 6-12 months size. But, after further investigation, I found a bunch of cloths in the next sizes up. JACK-POT! Too bad I discovered it after a trip to Baby Gap and Gymboree earlier that day. Oh, well. Anyway, in the batch of clothes was this pair of overalls. I admit, they are a bit "Bumpkin", especially without a shirt. I may be a little biased, but I couldn't stand how sweet Caroline looked in them. I had to go out and get just a few pictures. Here are the results.

She's pretty happy and proud of the outfit.

Then she discovers the "berries" on the plant. They are so not berries and are quite poisonous. I watch her closely.

They say that the Third time is the charm. Well, it was certainly true in this case. This was our third trip to the beach, in attempt to capture the "F" family. We were completely rained out the first two times by the infamous Florida summer afternoon thunderstorms. We weren't risking it this time and went for a sunrise portrait session instead. Getting three children under three and a teen-ager out the door for anything is a challenge, but getting to a portrait session with clean, happy children is monumental! I think your efforts paid off. Our family has certainly had it's share of firsts this week. Madelyn, decided she was finally ready for her FIRST haircut! You read that right - first hair-cut at five! She decided, after watching me get my hair cut several weeks ago, that she was finally ready. She has been watching her brother get his hair cut here for 2 1/2 years. She had planned out the scenario in her head many, many times. We've even had specific milestone where she said she would be ready to get it cut. Not until she was five; after her dance recital because she needed a bun; after Preschool was over. The dates kept coming and going. But, the list of requirements never seemed to change - Sitting in the purple jeep, getting to watch a DVD, and picking out a Lolly Pop were VERY, VERY critical elements in Madelyn's first haircut experience.

So, when, I asked her when she wanted to get her hair cut this week-end, I was shocked to hear "on Monday". I made her appointment and off we went to Lil Divas and Dudes Salon. We had talked about her donating her hair to Locks of Love in the past. I showed her their website and she watched me get mine cut for the cause. I left it up to her to decide. She told me she was ready to help kids who didn't have hair. I honestly couldn't hide my tears of pride. My sweet little Madelyn got a good 12" of her blond curls cut today. She suddenly looks so much older and she is as proud as can be.

"R" Family Vacation - Sarasota Beach Photographer

I know I say it seems like I say this often, but I truly feel blessed to have been a part of the "R" Family vacation memories. This is one of my very favorite sessions to date. Photographing a family with four children ages six and under, including 17 month old twins could have been a challenge, but this session was an absolute blast. The entire family relaxed and embraced the experience, including a benchmark first time at the beach for the twins. Big brothers jumping the waves and getting sandy and wet before we even started our session might have sent some parents into a fit, but Kristen and John embraced every aspect of childhood and we were really able to capture true lifestyle images. For nearly six years now, I go through phases that are clearly related to pregnancy and having young children and babies. When I'm pregnant, my normally unmanageable, frizzy hair becomes fuller, thicker and, a little less frizzy. I swear, I don't lose one strand of hair when I'm pregnant. Then, I give birth and several months later, start the lovely phase of massive shedding (trust me, that is the understatement of the decade). Add to that a baby that is either pulling my hair, holding onto it for support, or using it as a lovey on good days and as a burp cloth on others. I end up wearing my hair pulled back into a pony tale and severely lack any sort of fashion or style. This results in the need for a major hair cut and make-over.

So, for over a year now, I've been been growing out my hair. I expected the same results and planned ahead to get it cut once I had at least 10 inches. Why ten you ask? Well, that is the minimum amount that can be donated to Locks Of Love, an organization that uses the donations to make wigs for children suffering from hair loss. In doing my research for donation requirements, I also came across Pantene Beautiful Lengths. Hair donations to Pantene's organization go to women fighting breast cancer. The requirements for Pantene are actually a little less (only 8 inches are needed for them). With that in mind, I decided I was ready NOW!

So, on Saturday, Madelyn accompanied me (and played the role as Event Photographer) to the salon to get my cut. She has also been growing her hair out. In fact, in 5 1/4 years, she's never had a real hair cut. It is my hope to encourage her (and many of you) to do the same. So, here I am...

I had the absolute pleasure of working with the big, happy Garcia Family. They were vacationing on Longboat Key and asked me to help document their stay. I was told that the family has vacationed here every year several decades. It started when the kids were kids and has continued to be a tradition with their own families. There were 21 people in the immediate family representing 4 generations; however, there was extended family participating in this annual event as well. I loved being able to watch the interactions of such a large family, yet witness the amazing closeness and connection they shared. The little bit of chaos was the perfect definition of what every family should strive to have. Thank you for inviting me to be a part of it. I once again have to admit, I have neglected "Mine on Mondays". But, today I'm going to redeem myself with some images of my family. We celebrated my mom's birthday this week-end. We were beyond fortunate to get a couple minutes between major thunder storms and pouring rain to do a quick beach session on Longboat Key. I have been planning on this since Christmas, it was part of my parent's gift actually. We had several issues come up in between that stopped us from doing their session. A little rain wasn't going to stop it this time.

My mom adores the beach. She and I are a lot a like in that regard and it seems my kids now also share that love. So, the beach seemed the most fitting for their session. I do have to admit, initially, I was a little disappointed about the rain. We always talk about the "chamber of commerce" blue skies and it did not appear as though we were going to have them. But, I actually love the depth the clouds give to the images. We did even get some very brief blue skies in between rain showers.

Here are just a few of my favorites with my mom. Happy Birthday again to the most amazing WOMAN around. I wouldn't be half the woman or mother I am without your guidance. Thank you for being my role model, cheerleader and friend. We are all blessed to have you. I love you for all that you are, all that you do, and all that you've made me! Maci and her Mom and Dad drove from St. Petersburg last week for their session so I was a little more worried about the weather than usual. I did have a back-up plan, but I really love shooting in a settings where I can work with natural light and find that most babies and children do better in a non-studio type situation. I was biting my nails hoping we escaped the summer afternoon and evening thunderstorms for several hours prior to their session. The skies were getting that ominous gray, and I was beginning to think we were going to have to go with plan B. But, we got LUCKY! The weather held out and we ended up with a pretty mild evening, considering we are in Florida and it's late June. In fact, it is the only evening out of fourteen that did not involve thunder and lightning.

Maci was a perfect angel and seemed to read my mind. She looked up when I hoped she would, ate her toes, sat, rolled, smiled and giggled. She has the most amazing BLUE eyes that just seemed to sparkle. It was great to meet you Beth and Travis! I can't wait to document Macey's growth and her milestones over the next several months.

I got to meet sweet Eli when he was just 5 days old. Little Eli's mom and I go way, way back. We both started our "big girl" jobs as therapists (her a Physical Therapist, me a Speech Therapist) together, just out of college and graduate school. We have been friends ever since, through all the crazy ups and downs that life has brought us. I am beyond thrilled that we now have something else to share - Motherhood. It was HOT and HUMID on Tuesday evening, the typical hit you like a ton of bricks conditions we experience in Sarasota Summers. First up is nine-month old Sloan and her parents. They traveled all the way from California to visit their Sarasota Family. Sloan was such a smiley baby and quite easily amused. I am beyond late in posting this sneak peek. It was most certainly not out of lack of excitement, in fact, it was the opposite. I totally overshot this session and needed to clear off my hard drive before I could start processing the images.

The initial reason for the session was to document sweet Ivy's third birthday. She is one little ham and is full of personality! Nina was a shy, but sweet little girl who definitely did NOT want to have her pictures taken. She did not like the trees or anything that might involve a chance of encountering bugs. I thought I won her over with my Smarties and Pez candies, but that was very short-lived. We briefly talked about Princesses, Elmo and Friends and Bush Gardens and her upcoming Barbie birthday party, all of which brought smiles to her face. But, Nina's true personality really came out when she hit the fountains at Bay Front Park. We had a great time splashing around and managed to complete her session before the big rain storm came in. I met Mia when photographing her baby sister. I couldn't resist the chance to capture some images of four-year old Mia. She was one of the sweetest, most cooperative, helpful, and fun little girls I've ever photographed. I absolutely loved this series of images. Mia was a natural in front of the camera. No cheesey smiles, no pouts, just real emotion. I love that I was able to capture the amazing connection between mother and daughter.

Caroline is nine months! NINE! It feels like just yesterday that she was born, but I can't remember life without her. It's like she's been in my heart forever. My sweet Caroline is just getting sweeter. She is B.U.S.Y. these days. I have a feeling, she's only going to get busier. She's clapping, doing "so big", has started saying Mama and really means it, does some signs for more and up, crawls pretty efficiently, pulls to stand, and is starting to cruise. She dances to music (especially hip hop) as we noticed while waiting at Madelyn's dance class and at the Rays game. She is sleeping a little better these days, usually only up once or twice each night. I'm not going to lie, she has me (and the rest of our family) tightly wrapped around her little finger.

I attempted to do a 9-month session with her. Unfortunately, she's already got PCS (Photographer's Child Syndrome) and it lasted less than 5 minutes. But, these images are a pretty good representation of Caroline at 9 months.

I am feeling beyond blessed this year. I have been a mom for 5 years now! While every year has been special in its own way and for different reasons, Mother's Day this year has been the most meaningful for me.

The pampering started on Friday at the kids' school with Mommy Spa Day. Seriously, the cutest.thing.ever! There were endless treats planned, the first one was a strawberry shortcake, compliments of my own personal chef, Madelyn. Next up - a jeweled princess crown, made by very own artist, Madelyn. I was made to feel even more special when I received a colorful flower lei. I was then escorted to the outdoor spa!

I was treated to a lovely full-service hair-do, complete with purple and pink Hannah Montana glitter hair gel and LOTS and LOTS of water spritzers by TWO skilled hair stylists, Madelyn and Thomas. After that, I was treated to a chair massage (the real deal) by a very generous massage therapist. Madelyn and Thomas completed my massage with their very own massagers. We then moved on to the spa foot treatments. While enjoying some foot scrub and lotion from Madelyn, I sipped on my very own pink, sparkling drink complete with an umbrella made with a joint effort by my two personal bar-tenders. My beautification was completed with my very own jeweled rings and a new pair of flip flops.

Saturday, we went to Sea World and had an absolute blast. We went on the Shamoo roller coaster, the Atlantis flume ride (I convinced Madelyn to go and sit in the front seat). We got soaked, she wasn't happy. We climbed the BIG net wall, saw lots of sea animals and shows including sea otter, sea lion and walrus show (complete with Pirates), The Dolphin shows (my personal favorite), and of course, the big finale Shamoo show. We went with my family as well, which made it even more special.

Sunday started with the patter of little feet running to give me hugs and kisses and wishes for a Happy Mother's Day from Thomas. He gave me the gifts that he made at school. He was so, so proud. My favorite was magnet made with his hand print. Madelyn woke not long after. She was watching one of her favorite cartoons (Special Agent Oso) while snuggling with me. Suddenly, she had the biggest smile and her eyes were sparkling like diamonds. Oso's mission was to help plant yellow Marigolds for a little girl's mom. Madelyn went running to get the gifts she made me. The big gift was yellow Marigolds in a clay pot that she painted. There was also a coupon book for "free kisses", Hersey's "hugs" and several other art projects, including a picture she drew of me.

We went out to breakfast, watched a movie and the lazed around all afternoon. We then went to dinner to a Japanese Hibachi restaurant. There were 15 of us together. It was a fantastic evening. To top it all off, Caroline has started to say Mama to request me. I can't think of one single thing that could have made me feel more special than the culmination of this week-ends events.

Sweet Lila's mom and I had a very long series of phone and message tag to get her session scheduled. We finally had a date and time, but then our flowery location turned into a field of weeds, the weather was stormy, and little Lila got a big "booboo". I can tell you though, this one was certainly worth the wait. Lila immediately pulled at my heart strings when I saw her in her car seat, with a flirty smile with her thumb in her mouth. I have a total soft spot for thumb suckers as my Madelyn was (and still is) one herself. Nine-month old Lila was a total trooper, never cried, despite the late time and short nap that day. I have some fantastic images of her sister and mom too - to be shared at a later date.

"Mine on Monday" posts have taken a back-burner to the chaos over the past couple months, but I'm going to try to get back into them. I have about 12 GB of pictures of the kids; however, my hard drive is full so they are sitting in waiting until I clear some other stuff off.

Today's update will be about Caroline. She is already 8 months old. She is scooting around quite a bit (not crawling, but I'd say she'd mobile). She mostly goes backwards in an army crawl, but she also does a push-up inch worm to get places too. She is eating some finger foods and more baby food meals. She doesn't have any teeth yet despite the constant drool she's got going on. She is a babbling fool, mostly "Dadada", "Nananana", and "Lalalala", but there's an occasional "babbaba" and "mamama". Her latest party tricks are making Indian war chant sounds by banging her hand on her mouth or preferably mine. She gives me "kisses" (chomps down on my face while pulling the sides of my hair to her face). Other party tricks include cocking her head to the side when she hears "awwww". She is finally sleeping in her crib in her room at night. She started to flip over or pull up and tip forward in her sleep sling, so I think that may be retired. She's gone as long as 7 hours at a stretch one time last week, which is AMAZING! Unfortunately, I can't say that happened last night. She was up five different times, I'm hoping the thunderstorm was the problem and not a true set-back.

I have known sweet London's family for a long, long time. That is one of the greatest things about moving back to Sarasota where I grew up. I went to middle school with her dad and her aunt is one of my sorority sisters from FSU. Our parents vaction together and spend almost every Friday evening together.

I was thrilled at the opportunity to photograph their newest edition, London. This baby girl slept almost the entire time, making this newborn session my easiest yet! Thank you to the entire "G" family and Big Congratulations to Jeff and Scarlett (and Nana and PoPou too)!

I love being able to follow a family from "Belly to Baby". I had the pleasure of photographing Sarah and her family when she was pregnant and now sweet little Sydney as a newborn. Sydney's newborn photo session was scheduled before she was even born, to be completed when she was 12 days old. But my little one was in the hospital and we had to reschedule. I typicallly prefer to have newborn sessions complete within the first two weeks of life, it's the best time to capture those sleepy, bendy moments. I lucked out though, Sydney was a superstar for her modeling debut at just 20 days young. Thank you again Sarah and Steve for welcoming me into your home and the pleasure of documenting these first moments celebrating your new family of four. Six Months! Caroline turned six months old on Valentine's Day. She is finally feeling better. We went for her six-month well baby visit (making the total number of pediatrician visits in the past month up to 8 (not counting the hospital stay). She is doing fantastic though. She weighed in at 14 lbs, 10.5 ounces, placing her at the 25th percentile for weight. She was 26 1/2 inches long, placing her at the 75th percentile for length. She's following in the footsteps of Madelyn and Thomas, long and lean. She is sitting tall for fairly long periods of time before toppling over, drooling like there's no tomorrow, laughing, squealing and has started to babble. We just started solids, although she isn't much of a fan just yet. And, finally, as you can see, she is also in the famous toe-eating stage.

I have lots of other good stuff to share, but have been busy catching up with proofing. I got behind with all the illness, but I'm almost caught up. If you are waiting on a gallery that was due, I should have it to you in the next couple days. Thanks for your patience.

Mine on Mondays - Sarasota Child Photographer

First, I'm sorry to those that are waiting on your galleries. I'm working on it, I promise. Please bear with me just a little bit longer.

Oh what a week it has been! Started last Monday with all three kids at the pediatrician for ear infections and bronchitis and ended with Caroline being admitted to the hospital for 3 days (2 nights). I actually had one foot out the door, on my way to the hospital with Madelyn on Monday night when her fever was at 105 degrees, even with Motrin and Tylenol and she wasn't able to keep her medications in. Caroline and Madelyn spent Monday night taking turns coughing, moaning, and crying all night. It was so scary. But, once they got a full day's of antibiotics and nebulizers treatments, Madelyn and Thomas were behaving more like themselves, their eyes weren't as glassy, they were eating a little, and even had the strength to fight with each other.

But, Caroline was still not herself. She was coughing a nasty cough and was doing it a lot. She still sounded really junky and was wheezing, despite the breathing treatments. I tried to be patient, but Wednesday night Caroline was up, agitated, and having difficulty breathing. In fact, she was so junky and so wheezy, you could hear her from the other room. I took her back to the doctor who decided to admit her directly to the hospital. She was pale, dusky looking at times. She was taking fairly quick and shallow breaths, her chest was retracting with each breath. The good thing, if there is one, about a direct admission is that we had no waiting in the ER, we just went straight to the pediatric floor. Anyway, after several tests, Caroline was diagnosed with RSV. She needed oxygen on the first day and night. Thankfully, she was feeding well enough to avoid dehydration and the need for IVs. Honestly, she was an amazing trooper through the entire stay. The Drs. think that her first illness 3 weeks ago with Croup and Bronchiolitis weakened the immune system and that she likely got RSV a week or so after that. They also the "contagious" period is about seven days from onset of symptoms, so she should no longer be infectious. The cough and junkiness will last a couple weeks they said, but should be improving each day.

Madelyn and Thomas were quite brave through the whole ordeal as well. Madelyn was with me when I took Caroline to the Doctor and went with the flow quite well with very little panic. It was a little scary to be honest and she was very brave. Thomas was at preschool and also handled it very well. We are having a little trouble keeping them away from Caroline, out of her face in particular, but, they were sweet as can be with Caroline. They are amazing, compassionate little beings.

The first picture is of Caroline in the hospital. Sorry about the quality, it was taken with my antique mobile phone. For some reason, Bjorn thought my request to bring my camera to the hospital fell into the "unreasonable" category.

I didn't hear any noise from the family room, typically, not a good sign. So, I tip-toed in there and saw Thomas all decked out in his scrubs, checking Caroline. I ran quickly and grabbed my camera and snapped a couple shots before he caught me.

OK - so I am already behind on the "Mine on Monday" goal. I have a good excuse though, I promise. Caroline had her first sickness starting two weeks ago. She didn't take the easy road either, we're talking Croup, Bronchiolitis, Viral syndrome and exacerbation of her reflux. She was prescribed steroids and nebulizers. The steroids made her C.R.A.Z.Y! About a week into it, she was almost acting like herself, still coughing, but not pitiful.

We instill the value of sharing in our house, and this was no exception. Thomas started with a nasty, junky cough last week-end and it continued through the week. He missed Preschool on both Tuesday and Thursday. By Friday, he was doing a lot better. Still coughing, but not pitiful (are you sensing a theme?).

On Friday, I went to pick Madelyn up from Preschool and her eyes were glassy. Uh Oh. But, she said she was OK. I also noticed Caroline was sleepier than usual and she also had glassy eyes again. Double Uh Oh. We woke up on Saturday morning to all three kids coughing in harmony. Madelyn's temperature hasn't gone below 102 degrees since then (even with Motrin). Caroline has a fever. Both are wheezing, coughing, sneezing fools. Both get in coughing fits so badly, that they end up "losing their lunch" so to speak. NOT FUN - for anyone. Madelyn has taken up residence in our room on the floor at night, Caroline has never been out of our room so she's in there too. Molly (our elderly, smelly Beagle) is in our bed and either snoring or howling in her sleep. Bjorn has started talking in his sleep. I never thought I'd be so thankful for 90 minutes of sleep, but that's what I'm working on the past two nights.

Thankfully, the weather has allowed us to open the windows and doors in an attempt to get some fresh air in the house. You can smell the scent of Lysol, bleach, and hand sanitizer from the driveway. Here's hoping to a healthier Monday next week.

The first series are Caroline getting her breathing treatments. She doesn't seem to mind it. Madelyn and Thomas would throw huge fits when they had to get them. I think she likes the motor sound from the nebulizer.

Thomas fell asleep on the couch while eating his lunch. Notice the piece of ham sitting on his napkin. Madelyn also fell asleep on the couch. For anyone that knows my kids, you know that they both surely must be sick because sleeping is just never on the agenda.

Step one of my processing always involves uploading the images from my CF card onto my hard drive. I have lots to do and didn't plan on editing any of these images tonight, but while they were loading, this one popped up on my screen and was SCREAMING my name. So, here is just one. There will be more to follow, I promise, but I couldn't wait for this one.

Little Miss Hailee on Siesta Beach. She is absolutely gorgeous. Look at those eyes, that blond hair and her flirty smile. All at age 3. WOW! Lesa and John, it's good that's she's got two big brothers to help tame the boys. I have a feeling there will be lots of them coming to your door in the future.

At just 6 days old, this little man was absolute perfection! Every little thing about him. He slept perfectly for the first part of our session. When he woke up, he was bright-eyed, and I promise, he was smiling. Not the newborn gas smiles, but real, interactive smiles. Erin and Brian, you have one amazing family. Mine on Mondays - Sarasota Baby Photographer

I have BIG plans in store this year for Fanciful Photography and have been busy working on all of it. I can't wait until it's up and running. In the mean time, this is just one of traditions I hope to keep up with on the blog. I am going reserve Mondays to share pictures and stories about me and my family (hence - "Mine of Monday"). I can't take credit for the idea, there are several photographer friends that have been doing this as well. But, this will encourage me to not only take more pictures of my own family, but also to actually process some of them. It will also be a way for my clients to get to know me a little better.

So, here it is, my very first Mine on Monday. This mini-session didn't go as planned. Somehow, when its with your own kids, they never do. My plan was actually to do Thomas's 3-year pictures, but he wasn't having anything to do with it. I chose not to pick that battle today. So, Caroline was my only other candidate at home, and, since she can't talk back yet, she got the duty today. Sadly though, her reflux has been extraordinarily bad these past couple weeks. Having her flat on her back really doesn't help. Add to that a tired baby, and well, the session lasted about 2 1/2 minutes this morning and 45 seconds this afternoon. Then she turned into a puke factory and we were done!

One HOT Mama! {Sarasota Materntiy Photographer}

The title says it all. I had the absolute PLEASURE of meeting Sarah, Steve, Sawyer and "Nonna" at Siesta Beach for a maternity session. That's right, in late December, while most of the country was shoveling snow, we flew kits, shoveled sand, and even put our toes in the surf. The weather was a bit cold for us Sarasota folk (in the 60's), but it was definitely what I refer to as a Chamber of Commerce kind of day. Sarah is most certainly a beautiful, HOT mama and WOW, is she glowing! Sawyer is by far the most cooperative little 3 1/2 year old that I've photographed. Nonna was a blessing and a great sport. Steve, I am so glad I didn't need to break out the Benadryl or Epi pen when you saw the camera. Thank you for allowing me the honor to photograph and document this wonderful time in your lives. I can't wait to meet your precious new little one!

We have been quite busy with Christmas festivities and I do have intentions of sharing some of those details soon, once I process them. But, I couldn't help but post just a couple from today. We went to Brunch with Santa today. It's a tradition we've done as a family for several years, each year gets a little more magical. The Santa is amazing, I'm pretty sure he's the REAL DEAL, no helper here! He magically knew that Madelyn and Thomas had both outgrown their Crocs and even knew their size and favorite colors!

The Svenson Crew - Madelyn, Caroline, Thomas and Bjorn with the Big Guy

We didn't tell the kids where we were going. It's a game we play with them whenever There's a special occasion. I initially started it a couple years ago, to prevent any drama in case that we were unable to make an event, but now it's a fun guessing game. Madelyn almost always figures it out beforehand, and today was no exception. She grabbed a gift bag and an "art project" (tracing of shapes on one side, address label stickers with handwritten names by her and Thomas on the other) before leaving the house and said "just in case we are going to see Santa, I want to bring him a present". This is Santa admiring the present. I ADORE the look on both of their faces, Madelyn has the shy but proud look and Thomas is proud and amazed. So them.

As a photographer, it's hard to allow myself to just take snapshots of moments and not always strive to get a portrait. If I was going for the portrait, I would have missed these moments, ones that I wouldn't trade for the world. And, as I sit here tonight writing this post, they are both in bed, wearing their new Crocs to sleep. There truly is nothing more amazing than experiencing Christmas through their eyes.

Parker and Hayden couldn't wait for their first Christmas! They arrived three weeks early just to prepare. I had the pleasure of photographing them and their big brother when they were just 9 days old. They are both tiny peanuts, Hayden weighing in at just over 5 lbs and Parker just over 6lbs. These babies are beyond loved and responded instantly to the sound of their mother's voice. It really was a family affair, passing babies to mom, dad, grandma and grandpa. I am truly blessed to have such a fantastic opportunity to be a part of their lives, even just for the afternoon.

I had the honor of doing Kelly's maternity shots earlier this year. This week, I had the pleasure of photographing them as a family, with the Gorgeous Taylor. I was worried all day about the weather, in fact, there were gray clouds up until the minute we started shooting. Then, miraculously, we had blue skies and a beautiful sunset. Quite fitting for this beautiful family. Thank you Kelly and Bobby for the privilege to photograph your family and to meet your sweet, sweet little girl.

I literally gasped when I saw this one on my camera's LCD and it continues to have the same effect on me every time I see it.

Admittedly, I am a little late. Probably no surprise to my close friends and family. For some reason, since having children, being late is no longer the exception to the rule, it is my rule. I have been busy with photo sessions, processing the images after the sessions, creating holiday cards, and placing orders. I have become a tracking stalker, constantly checking the status on expected deliveries. I am still very much like a child on Christmas morning, waiting for client pictures and products to be delivered. It is always THAT much better seeing and touching my art.

Anyway, even though I didn't publish the milestone, Caroline is already 3 months old, 1/4 of the way through her first year! My little Belle is generally a VERY happy baby, quite the flirt really. She smiles, coos, and has even started that sweet belly laugh. I have to work hard for it still, but I do get it eventually. I thought we escaped the dreaded REFLUX this time around, but, no such luck. I caved and started her on the same medication that Thomas used. Seems to be helping but unfortunately, is no magic cure. I am still constantly wearing Eau De Puke, but she seems to be in less pain overall. She is growing like a weed, almost too long for her bassinet. Her hair is growing too - wild as ever actually. On that note, here she is, Caroline at 3 months.

And, this one is just for fun. Thomas was sitting in this antique baby doll highchair the other day, I freaked, but quickly realized, when it didn't break, it would be the perfect spot for a quick picture of Caroline. I really wanted to take one of Thomas in there too, but figured that would only encourage the behavior, so I resisted.

Family. Three generations. Solid. I met up with the Smith family last week-end at Selby Gardens. They were so loving and supportive to each other and were such good sports doing whatever I asked. OK, so maybe there was a little candy and sticker bribery along with some toys and crazy noises involved in getting the youngest generation to fully comply, but we accomplished our mission. I Love what I do. I truly love it and this is why. I had the pleasure of photographing sweet, little Addison and her parents Laura and Aaron this past week-end. The weather was perfect - what we like to call "Chamber of Commerce" weather -which made the session that much better. Not only did I get some formal and posed shots for their Holiday cards, but I was able to capture them as a family, just "being". Mom and Dad were so laid back and let Addison go at her own pace. I think we got shots that reflect what a FUN family they really are. Here are just a few. I am keeping most of the full family shots under wraps, I don't want to ruin your Christmas card surprise. So, we are finally getting some family pictures taken. It's something that I've been wanting to do but have put it off for one reason or another. Some of the best excuses included: "we are so busy with moving(insert any possible event), let's wait until things calm down and do it", "I'm pregnant, there's no point in getting pictures now, without the new baby", "I want to wait until I lose these last 10 pounds", "Let's wait until she's holding her head up (insert other developmental milestone her), "he fell and has an big bump and bruise on his head" etc.

Recently, I've been reminded of how precious life is and to not take a moment for granted. I've realized this is who we are NOW. I want to document the now, remember us for who we are NOW. Maybe in a few months, things will be different and more "ideal", but I want the NOW (including the 10 extra pounds).

So, being the crazy shopper and obsessive person I am, yesterday, I started our wardrobe search. It's not easy to find outfits that coordinate but aren't too matchy for a 4 1/2 year old girl and 2 1/2 year old boy who are way too tall for clothes that actually fit them in their wastes and butts. Even though it's November, it's still in the upper 80's here and the kids have pretty much grown out of any picture worthy outfits they have from the spring and summer. The stores only have sweaters and heavy, fall and winter choices, which, I figure we can "suffer" through, since it is a session for Holiday cards. But, that same 2 1/2 year-old boy hates long pants and long sleeves and had one of the biggest fits in recent history the day I made him wear them. Oh, and that same 4 1/2 year-old girl has fairly strong opinions that she should really only wear pink and purple. And then there's me...I admit I have my own issues (see above-mentioned 10 pounds) of having limited items that fit the way I want. Oh, and a budget, did I mention that?

So, I decided to start of with the one that doesn't talk back (yet) or have opinions about color (yet) and frankly, if I might say so myself, looks pretty darn cute in just about anything. So, I tortured, uhh, I mean engaged Caroline to play dress-up. Of course, I couldn't just try on the outfits and form my own opinions, based on what fit etc. I decided I needed to get my camera to take pictures, so that I can ask my friends, family, and a group of fellow photographers on a message board for their opinions too. After I got the first option on, I put Caroline back on our bed to get my camera. Not thinking, I sat her on the bed. She surprised the heck out of me and stayed that way - SITTING UP!!! She is only 2 1/2 months old.

I hadn't intended on taking pictures that would be for sharing here(hence the messy room, unmade bed, Snapshot). But, how could I resist.

I posted a sneak peek of Lily's newborn sister last week. I thought I would share just a couple of Big Sister Lily tonight. She has the most beautiful curls and brown eyes that tell a story without words. Lily was a little chatter box at just 19months old and was a perfect little lady during the session.

I was honored to photograph 8-day old Camilla and her big sister Corin today. Camilla was bright-eyed and awake for much of the session, she didn't want to miss a thing. She really enjoyed looking out the sliding glass doors where we set up to shoot. With a little persistence and lots of "shhhh, shhhh, shhhing", Camilla finally fell asleep and we got some beautiful shots. I was also able to capture some of Corin showing me her personality. Thanks Kristi for welcoming me into your home and allowing me to photograph your beautiful girls.

{Sweet Baby Ayla} - Sarasota Newborn Photographer

The day started off quite foggy and with a sky full of clouds, not a good sign for a natural light photographer. But, I was greeting with the most beautiful and perfect setting, just outside Ayla's mom and dad's bedroom. The weather was absolutely perfect for an outdoor picture day. Ayla, just 17 days old, was beyond cooperative. She slept, ate, pooped, got pictures taken, slept, ate, pooped, got pictures taken. You get the idea. We were able to use lots of sentimental items in her pictures, making these images even more precious. G-family, Thank you for allowing me to photograph you and Ayla, I hope you enjoy your sneak peak.

Caroline is 7 weeks old today. She is still a fairly easy-going baby. She does have a crabby period almost everyday, ironically, right when I am trying to get dinner ready. The sound of the vacuum calms her down almost immediately. I guess she's like her mama, a clean house calms me down too. The recent cooler weather have made us all happy, as she also really enjoys being outside for walks in the stroller (and being carried even more). She smiles when I sing to her (I'm not sure if she's laughing at my attempts, but I guess it's better than her crying). She's is pretty stingy with her smiles though and I've only been able to catch them on camera this week.

As Labor Day came and went and Football season is officially underway, I expected (OK, HOPED for) some signs, any sign really, that fall weather was on its way. But, here in Southwest Florida, the sauna baking continues.

Here is one quick picture, evidence, that even little Caroline is still sweating it out in Sarasota. Notice, she's been "blessed" with the frizzy action on the sides of her head. She can thank me later for that genetic gift and commiserate with Madelyn about it when they are teenagers.

I cannot believe it has already been one month. What can I say, time flies when you are having fun (and blends together when sleep-deprived).

We are all adjusting well to being a family of 5, better than expected actually. So far, we have been lucky, Caroline is a fairly easy-going baby. She settles best when I am holding her, but I don't have to perform a three-ring while doing so, that is a nice change. Caroline has already earned herself several nicknames, the kids have been heard calling her "CB" although Madelyn definitely prefers "Caroline" and will let you know it. Bjorn, my mom and I have call her "Little Belle" quite frequently. Thomas is Mr. Formal and usually refers to her by her full name "Caroline Belle".

Caroline had her one month well-baby appointment at just over 3 weeks. She is growing quickly, already up to 9 pounds 10 ounces. She seems to have really "woken" up this week, her eyes are clearer and focus better and she's starting to smile and coo more often.

First Days of School - Sarasota Children's Photographer

It's hard to believe that my first baby is already in Pre-kindergarden. Madelyn started school on Monday at St. Paul's Early Childhood Learning Center. She will be going five mornings a week. She was slightly apprehensive in the morning but was quite fired-up about her new backpack and polka dot glitter Converse. She finished her first day with the exclamation of "It was AWESOME!". She didn't have a ton to say other than that. Her teacher is Ms. Bridget and the teacher's assistant is Ms. Jackie.

Thomas started preschool at St. Paul's today. He will be going two mornings a week. His teachers name is Ms. Jennifer. He was attempting to put on a brave face this morning at drop-off, but I could tell he wasn't feeling all too brave. He was most excited about his new backpack. He spared Mama the tears at drop-off, but did report that he cried a lot because "I missed my Mama and Daddy and Caroline". He finished with saying he was happy too. When I walked into his class to pick him up, he was happily playing dress-up (sporting a cool cowboy hat and a pearl purse).

Here's hoping that all the fun will tire them out enough that I can get in a quick nap.

SWEET CAROLINE

On Friday, August 14, 2009, at 7:32 AM, Caroline Belle was born. She weighed in at 7 pounds, 13 ounces and 21 inches long. Our biggest baby in weight and length by a good amount. She was born with a full head of thick, dark black hair and her complexion is much darker than Madelyn's or Thomas's. Her eyes are the typical non-descripr newborn grayish right now, but at times look quite blue.

She certainly surprised me, since I was about 90% sure she was a boy. I have to admit, she was nameless for nearly 48 hours. Caroline Belle was our top "girl" name, but after seeing her, I wasn't sure it fit her. But, she is so, so incredibly sweet. It was Saturday night/early Sunday morning when I decided she would be Caroline Belle, and now I can't believe I doubted it to begin with. She is a very easy gong baby. She sleeps soundly and loves to snuggle. She's got her days and nights mixed up a little bit, but is pretty happy even at night, as long as she's being snuggled or swaddled.

I of course, will have a million and one pictures to share at some point, but wanted to post some quick snap shots from the hospital.

She was already baking in the Florida Sun this morning. She has borderline high bilirubin levels, so in addition to getting extra blood work done for monitoring, she needs to get some indirect sunlight as well. She seemed to love it actually.

One more sleep...

The kids have kept a calendar for the past month or so, marking off days until the baby comes. We are down to "one more sleep" and I can't believe it. Part of me feels like I've been pregnant for 2 years and the other part feels like it was just yesterday.

I had intentions of getting maternity shots done, I have two photographer friends that were willing, but I just never got it together. So, of course, the anal retentive, type A, crazy me decided I needed a couple pictures tonight. It was nearly dark, we had all gotten caught in the rain, I had on no make-up, and the grass was wet. So, certainly not the best technically and sadly, someone had to take the picture, so Bjorn is left out. But, there are a couple memories of me and my big ole belly one last time.

One more sleep and I will meet the little one that has been giving me love taps (punches, kicks and jabs) for the past 39 weeks. We'll know if we will have another princess or another little dude.

So, for anyone willing, I'd love lots of positive thoughts and prayers for a HEALTHY baby and a safe delivery and surgery tomorrow.

Bet I had you fooled, at least for a minute. I'm still pregnant, scheduled eviction date is Friday the 14th. But, today, I delivered an order to Baby Mack's family. I had the pleasure of photographing Little Mack when he was exactly two weeks old. Here are just a couple of images from his session.

This is my first official post to the new blog. I will start off with some personal information. In just 12 days at the most, I will have baby #3 in my arms. We do not know the sex yet. Madelyn, my four-year old daughter, thinks she will have a new baby sister. Thomas, my two-year old son, is betting he will have a new baby brother. I have been in the nesting stage for a good week now, so I think we might actually be ready. Of course, I can make lists and lists of things that need to be done before the new little one's arrival, but of course, those are all just lists and the baby will come whether I've checked them off or not. So, in the mean time, we are enjoying the last days as a family of four, getting in extra snuggle and cuddle time when possible and doing some of the things that will be challenging with a newborn.

So, to get some comments going, I pose a challenge to all of you. Post your guess on the new baby's sex, size, and date of arrival.
